Vaccine passports to be introduced

If the current trends are to continue, the world will continue to push for a shift to normalcy, even amidst the lockdowns that are taking place.

In order to facilitate these needs in a safe and sustainable manner minister Nadhim Zahawi is pushing for calls to keep the economy open and the introduction of a vaccine passport.

While the minister stated that the decision for children to be vaccinated should be a matter kept mainly to be dealt with through their parents, he also mentioned that there is a plan to introduce a COVID-19 vaccine passport for people hoping to attend large venues.

The ultimate hope of the vaccine passport is being able to keep the nation running despite cases, even during the winter, as creating a pattern of opening and closing is only going to create spikes in cases.

On the issue of whether healthy 12 to 15-year-olds should be offered a vaccine, Mr Zahawi said: “We have not made any decisions, so we haven’t decided not to listen to the experts… on the contrary, all four ministers, the secretary of state Sajid Javid and his fellow ministers in the devolved administrations have agreed to ask the chief medical officers to convene expert groups, including the JCVI being in that, to be able to recommend which way we should go.”

Mr Zahawi has also stated that he will do everything in his power to ensure that another lockdown does not occur and that he was doing his best to ensure that a booster programme would be provided for people as well.

The reality is that all authorities are stuck between a rock and a hard place as the economy as well as the needs of the people are to be placed on a scale at each turn. The hope is that by the end of 2022, many of these logistical and tough decisions would have brought the nation to a better place.
