The 38-year-old director was at CinemaCon promoting her new film when she was handed a brown envelope. During the session at Caesars Palace’s The Colosseum, Wilde was interrupted briefly when an unidentified person approached from the front rows and slid a manila envelope labelled “personal and confidential” across the front of the stage towards her. “This is for me?” Wilde had asked curiously. According to Deadline, she then opened it to find custody papers for her two children with Sudeikis, the well known comedian and Ted Lasso star. Wilde, on the other hand, remained calm in the face of what must have been quite the surprise. With her personal life suddenly on display, the filmmaker continued to speak about her project to the audience, which was mostly made up of exhibitors. The trailer for ‘ Don’t Worry Darling’ was then met with thunderous applause.

“Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis,” a source for Sudeikis, 46, told Variety. “Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or location at which the envelope would have been delivered, as this was entirely up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inconvenient manner.” After nearly ten years together, the couple divorced in late 2020. They have two children, Otis, eight, and Daisy, five.

Following the incident, CinemaCon’s managing director, Mitch Neuhauser, stated, “We have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate approached the stage who was not authorised to be there.” “In light of this incident, we are re-evaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all our attendees,” he added.

Wilde revealed last year that she was “happier” than ever after beginning a relationship with Harry Styles, the former One Direction singer who headlined Coachella this month. Her most recent film, ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, starring Styles and Florence Pugh, will be released in September. Sudeikis recently won several awards for his role in Ted Lasso, in which he plays a football coach in southwest London.
